The Corrosive Challenge #159 - Something Wicked This Way Comes

Time for another Corrosive Challenge?  Yes, it is!  And even though it's not quite a new month, it's close enough!  We have a new sponsor for today's challenge and for the entire month of October!  Let's make some noise for Sassy Studio Designs!  Are you making noise?  Good!  SSD has a fabulous prize of 4 images for our monthly winner!  Want to know a little more about Sassy Studio Designs and the woman behind it?  So glad you asked!

Here's a little about the fabulous digi company in owner/artist Lindsay Dyer's own words:
"Sassy Studio Designs is a fresh and fun company. We have been designing and selling for 3 years now, and we have been kindly received into the community of digi stampers and crafters. I started designing images shortly after I started stamping. I was a young adult woman at the time. I was engaged, had no kids - I wanted fun, sexy images that I would enjoy using and my friends and (then soon to be) hubby would enjoy receiving. I designed images for 2 other digi stamp companies when my DH kept trying to get me to go out on my own. So in June 2009 thanks to the few faithful followers I had, Sassy Studio Designs was born! It has been a wonderful journey starting my own store. We have just grown so much these past years.  I still try to be Lindsay Dyer: keep with my original philosophy and reason for designing stamps, make them fun, and keep them sassy...and yes sometimes even sexy! ~Lindsay"

Now onto the business of the new challenge....  As many of you know, Halloween is my favorite holiday!  So how could I resist "Something Wicked This Way Comes"!?  The theme this fortnight is to create a Halloween card featuring a villain or a monster.  Sassy Studio Designs has quite a few images to fit the bill (check out the recent Little Honeys Villain collection)!  I selected an image from that collection myself!  This is Cruella Honey.  My son has recently fixated on the 101 Dalmatians movie so I am quite familiar with Cruella's evil ways!  As a matter of fact, the small man is going to be a dalmatian puppy for Halloween this year, and I'll be dresses as, you guessed it, Cruella De Vil!  I got my "fur coat" (a thrift store score at $15!), my red gloves, and a cigarette holder on Friday!  I'm so excited, and we still have a month to go!  Anyway, my card....

I colored Cruella using Copics and Prismacolor Art Markers.  I have really been trying to work on my hair coloring, doing some experimenting with some different techniques.  I'm not sure I like this one, but I tried.  My papers are Black Dots from Recollections by Michaels and My Mind's Eye - Haunted.  I followed the current Deconstructed Sketch (#71) for my layout.  The sentiment is computer generated.

Stop by The Corrosive Challenge blog to see some inspiration from the rest of the team!  Hope you'll play along with your favorite monster or villain too!  Enjoy your Sunday!  (I think I will be attempting to get the Halloween decorations up before doing some crafting.)

Markers used: Copics (E11, E21, E00, E23, R20, W4, W6, W8, W10) and Prismcolor Art Markers (79, 150, 151, 152, 169).

Survivor

October is my favorite month!  And it is almost here!  It is also Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Most of us know someone whose life has been touched by the disease in some way.  Many of us give our time, money, or both to the search for a cure.  And we all want to offer support and encouragement to those close to us who have had to fight, or continue to do so, against this disease.

Today's Sassy Studio Designs 24 hour Fabulous Freebie Friday image is I'm a Survivor.  She comes with a sassy sentiment because laughter is always a good medicine for the soul.  Head over to our Paper Craft Planet group to download her.  There may even be a special little something extra for you when you get there.  And while you're at it why not check out all the amazing project from the Fabettes?  We also have a new challenge starting today.  This fortnight it is "Support the Girlst".  We want to see a card offering comfort, support, encouragement, or care.  It can be for any reason, but it must feature a SSD image.  Bonus entry if you use one of the FFF images.  And if it's pink, well even better!  That calls for another bonus entry!

My card is for a fellow crafty friend and design team mate.  She is a survivor and I wanted to send her a little love so she would know that I'm in awe of her strength.  The sketch is from Sketch Saturday (#226).  Papers are Basic Grey.  I used my trusty, but underused, corner rounder punch on the layers.  I added just a few flowers and a pearl flourish for the finished look.  The sentiment, cut with a Spellbinders Label Fourteen Nestabilities die, is from a Sassy Studio Designs set called Think Pink Sentiments and it too is available for free for 24 hours on PCP.

Thanks for checking in today!  I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead of you!  It is supposed to rain here...  Perfect "stay inside and craft" weather.  Or nap.  Yes, I could see a nap in my future.  They, like the corner rounder punch, are under utilized!

Markers used: Copics (E23, E13, E11, E21, W4, W6, W8, W10, R81, R85, R20, RV29).

Happy Friday!

Is She a Princess?

That is what I heard several kids in the apple orchard asking their parents as my friend made her entrance on horseback to meet her groom on their wedding day.  There was wonder in their voices and rightly so.  It was a majestic sight!  And for the record, the answer to that question would be "Yes.  Yes, she is."

Photographs courtesy of Lori Belliveau at Belliveau Photography.

These are my friends Julie and Phil..  Theirs was the amazing wedding that I've been talking about for the past month.  And this is the card I made for their special day.

See the resemblance? :-)

Since they are a fun loving and unique couple I decided it would be appropriate to give them a non-conventional card.  Besides, finding a bald groom image is no easy feat!  So I paired two Simply B Stamps images for my creation.  This is Betty Addams and Miller Addams from the Teen Scene collection.  Betty is from last year's Halloween release; Miller from this year's.  Both are colored with Copics and fussy cut.  To hide the bottle of poison Miller is holding, I simply placed his hand behind Betty's back as though he had his arm around her.  Clever, right?  The rest is fairly simple.  I based my card on the current Deconstructed Sketch (#70).  I thought the tiered element was perfect as it reminded me of a wedding cake.  I embossed those layers for some texture.  I used a Marta Stewart border punch at the bottom, but my images almost obscure it entirely.  Papers are Everyday Tango from My Mind's Eye.  Add organdy ribbon, a bling flourish, and some metal corners and I was done.  Good thing too since I had to rush to get ready, drop my son off with my parents, and race to the ceremony!  I made it.  Barely.  And only because the ceremony didn't start on time, but, hey, I'll take it!  I'm so glad I didn't miss it because it was beautiful and fun, just like the two people whose love it celebrated!  From the horseback entrance to the hula hoop "intermission" to their exit to The Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like", I can't think of a better way for them to start their lives together!

Congrats again to Julie and Phil!  I'm wishing them every happiness as they begin this new adventure together!  Thanks for stopping by and hope you're having a fabulous week!

It's A Halloween Party - Sassy Style

Welcome to the Sassy Studio Designs September new release!  It's a Halloween Party- Sassy style!  Just wait until you see all the amazing images Lindsay created for us this month!  There are a dozen fabulous new ones being debuted today so let's get hopping!  If you arrived here from Karen's blog then you are on the right track.  If not, then you might want to head back to the SSD blog and start from the beginning so you don't miss anything!  In case you get lost along the way here is the complete hop list for today:

The hop will conclude tomorrow when the remainder of the team post their projects.  Of course, it's not a Sassy release without some fun and prizes!  There will be randomly selected comments chosen from different blogs each day and winners will get 2 images of their choice from the release. The winners  will be announced on Wednesday, September 27th.

There is also a limited time special at the SSD Store...buy 5 images and get a 6th one free!  The free image is of your choice and will be e-mailed to you.  Please allow sufficient time for delivery.

My card features the new Sassy Leia image!  I do love Star Wars, the original trilogy is a classic, and Princess Leia is a strong heroine, a fighter, dedicated to her cause and her friends!  What little girl doesn't want to be all those things?  Plus the cinnamon bun hair was pretty cool too!  Here I have paired her with the current sketch from Sweet Sketch Wednesday (#172).  Our theme for the hop is a Halloween party and my creation could be used as an invitation or a Halloween card.  Papers are Night of Navy card stock from Stampin' Up, silver Recollections card stock from Michaels, Frances Meyer dp (stars) and Creative Imaginations dp (Star Wars).   Leia is colored with Copics and Prismacolor Art Markers, fussy cut, and popped up.  I added a bit of sparkle to her belt with my StarDust glitter pen.  I have since cut the piece under her arm out with a craft knife but I'm too tired to take new pictures.  The rest of the card is pretty simple - a rhinestone flourish (it rather resembles stars, doesn't it?), a bit of organdy ribbon, and a sentiment found on the Internet.

Off you go to the talented Christine's blog next.  Don't forget to leave some love as you go for your chance to win!  I am headed to a wedding later today, but you can bet I'll be hopping to see all the frightfully fabulous creations before the weekend is over!

Thank you for taking the time to visit me and have a wonderful weekend!

Markers used: Copics (E11, E21, E00, E04, R20, E37, E39, E34, W6, W8) and Prismacolor Art Markers (108).

Fall Fun and a Farwell

I know that life is full of surprises, but when you have a extra happy week that suddenly takes a sad turn it's hard to deal with the change in mood.  I learned last night that  my parents had to put down their dog, Odin.  He was part of our family for 14 years, and we used to joke that he was my mom's favorite child (and it might not have been far from the truth!).  He was a fantastic dog, so full of personality, and it was hard to watch his health start to deteriorate as he got older.  My mom took excellent care of him, and he ate better than most human do!  But he was a large breed mutt (part German Shepherd, we think) and he suffered from hip dysplasia among other things.  We all loved him and will miss him, but my poor mom is going to notice his absence the most.  She only works part-time, evenings, and he was her constant companion.  I cried for him; I cried for her; I cried for me, because I didn't really say good-bye properly the last time we were there.  I knew it was coming, but didn't think it would be so soon.  Or maybe I didn't want it to be so soon...  My small man was upset because I was but he is too young yet to really grasp what it all means.  All he knows is his buddy won't be there to hug anymore when he visits his Babci and Papa.  Sorry to start a post with such sadness, but he deserves and needs a final tribute.  He gave our family many smiles and all of his loyalty and love.  We love you, Odin!

Now onto my card!  It is another Fabulous Freebie Friday over at Sassy Studio Designs Paper Craft Planet group (found here)!  We have another terrific 24 hour free image for you!  She's called Fall Fun, and it's easy to see why!  Even at my age jumping into a pile of leaves sounds like a good time!

The current challenge at PCP is "Orange You Glad It's Fall" and all you need to do to play along is use orange as your focal color.  There is no shortage of orange here!  I have colored the image with Copics.  I actually colored two images of the girl and fussy cut one to pop up on top of the other. I like the dimension this gives.  My layout is loosely based on the current Sketch N Stash challenge (#96).  I had to adjust it slightly to work for me.  Papers are My Mind's Eye - Halloween Scary Sparkles.  A bit of bling, a few flowers, some baker's twine and a Deconstructed doodle around the image panel (cut with my Labels Seventeen Nestabilities from Spellbinders) finish off the card.

If you'd like to make this cutie yours simply head over right over to our Paper Craft Planet group!  While you're there take a peek at what the Fabettes have made to showcase the image and leave a little love for the lovely design team ladies!  We hope you'll be so inspired you'll want to play along!

Thanks for stopping by and have yourselves a fantastic weekend!

Hippie Birthday

It is a pretty important week here!  My small man had a birthday and a couple of good friends are going to get hitched on Saturday!  But even with all the other excitement going on, I couldn't forget my best friend's oldest daughter!  Her birthday is the day after my son's, and she turned 14 this year!  I remembered that during one of our Summer excursions she had mentioned she liked the 60s.  She thinks its cool.  Well, alright then.  It was an easy decision to use Hippie Chick from Sassy Studio Designs to make her card!  And since SSD was sponsoring the sketch for Seems A Little Sketchy (#22) this week,  it seemed perfect for my layout!   I rotated the sketch a quarter turn, however, to accommodate my design.

Hippie Chick is colored with Copics and Prismacolor Art Markers.  She is fussy cut and popped up with foam squares.  Papers are My Mind's Eye - Dolled Up.  I love them paired with this image for a groovy retro feel!  I added some flowers, a bling flourish, and a couple of glittered chipboard accents (the peace sign and numbers).

I did decorate the inside of the card but I forgot to snap a picture of it before I gave it to her.  That's all I've got for you today.  I'm wiped out and I still need to sit down and make a design team card.  No rest for the weary! Or is it wicked?  Well, whatever, either way, sleep is a ways off yet!  lol  Hope everyone is having a good week so far and thanks for stopping by!

Markers used: Copics (E11, E21, E00, E04, R20, E33, Y32, Y35, YR07, YG95, B00, B02, B34, B37, B39) and Prismacolor Art Markers (137, 150, 169).

Turning Three...

Today was the day my small man turned 3.  It was a bittersweet occasion, as I imagine every birthday is to any mother who watches her baby grow up.  It was celebrated with gifts and cakes and a trip to the farm and of course a very special card.  As I mentioned in my last post, Kayne loves animals.  When asked what he wanted for his birthday he would rattle off a list of animal figurines he hoped to add to his collection.  And when I inquired as to what he would like on the card that Mommy would make for him he promptly replied " Um, maybe a cow."  And so my sweet small man got a sweet small cow on his birthday card!  This is Sweet Cow from A Day For Daisies.  Isn't he adorable?  I used the current sketch from the Sweet Sunday challenge (#167) as my layout and kept things pretty simple since it was for a child.  Just a wee tag and some glittered chipboard letters adorn my project.

I was pretty pleased with the results and as you can see, someone else was too!  Mad scientist-bedhead-crazy morning hair and all!!!  :-)

He carried it around the house with him this morning until it was time for him to leave with his father for the day!  He just makes me melt into puddles sometimes!  I am watching him sleep on the couch next to me now.  I mean, it must have been utterly exhausting to watch me assemble the gazillion piece castle for three hours!  lol  I can't believe how he's grown these past three years!  Or how quickly the time has gone by.  Sometimes I just want to freeze it.  Just for a little bit.  Like when he wants to cuddle.  Or when he gets a boo boo and "kiss it better" turns into a giggly game of kisses and zerberts.  There are a million tiny moments I want to capture and hold, but they all seem to slip away, leaving happy memories and smiles, with a wisp of melancholy.   No matter how big he gets, he will always be my baby.  (And to which he responds "I not a baby!  I'm a boy!"  lol)  Happy 3rd Birthday, Kayne!  Mommy loves you!

I am off to make cookie pops so that he can celebrate for one more day at day care tomorrow.  Thanks for stopping by and sharing this special day with us!

Markers used: Copics (W4, W6, W8, R20, BG10, BG13).
